Living Scriptures
If you are a parent trying to teach your children about the scriptures or about the hero classics you knew growing up, you may want to consider the Living Scriptures. The Living Scriptures videos are essentially bible story videos, which are produced by people such as James Rich, and Richard James. Some of the writing for the Living Scriptures videos was done by Orson Scott Card, a Mormon author, who is one of the most successful in the LDS book industry. Orson Scott Card is the author of the popular book series Ender’s Game, and his writing for the Living Scriptures videos provides fun dialogue and rich, though provoking material which is beneficial for children and adults alike.
The animated stories portrayed in the Living Scriptures videos are certainly videos that you will want in your home, whether you are Mormon of not, and no matter how well you believe your children understand the scriptures. The Living Scriptures video set features beautiful animation, and original music. Lots of the music is written by Lex de Azevedo, a Mormon composer, who also composed music for other animated films such as the Swan Princess and non-animated Mormon affiliated films like Saturday’s Warrior.
The Living Scriptures videos are available for purchase from sales people in your neighborhood, and are also sold at Deseret Book. Deseret Book is a great bookstore for any books from the LDS Book industry, works by Orson Scott Card, or anything affiliated with the Living Scriptures videos. This includes the videos themselves, as well as Living Scriptures piano books, and Living Scriptures coloring and activity booklets.
Characters in the Living Scriptures videos are often humorous, and are very memorable. The dialogue by Orson Scott Card and other Mormon writers is easy to understand, but still teaches the principles taught in the scriptures.
One of the seeming downfalls to the Living Scriptures videos is that each video is nearly $30. However, many satisfied customers have praised the Living Scriptures products, and declared that they are worth the price. So much of today’s media is not appropriate for children, or advocates the wrong messages. The Living Scriptures products not only teach the scriptures, but entertain the family while still being wholesome, uplifting products. The Living Scriptures videos are set at the price they are, because it is the only way to maximize profits, seeing as the Living Scriptures products, do not make money in theaters or through other types of marketing.
The bottom line is, ignore that bottom line! The Living Scriptures videos are a worthwhile investment in entertainment and teaching scriptures to whole families, no matter who you are.
