Oprah Winfrey is arranging a visit to Cairns as just one leg of an Australian tour this year, as Oprah made known at one point in her top-rating talk show revealing the date of her visit to be in December.
Marketing specialist calculate approximately that the December visit of Winfrey with hundreds of her invited viewers and crew members will be worth hundreds of millions of dollars in media hype and future bookings, a great deal more than any other tourism campaign that has ever been staged.
Winfrey said that she is planning for a trip to Australia as part of the 25th and final season show, and surprised her audience by announcing that she will be flying with them.
“We’ll feed the kangaroos and cuddle the koalas, then kick back on some of the world’s most exquisite beaches, and explore one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Great Barrier Reef,” Winfrey told her audience.
Oprah is bringing her 300 most dedicated viewers on her 8 day and 7 night trip to Australia, including Cairns Queensland.
“Her enormous inspiration and the way she can her reach across the globe is just the shot in the arm our tourism industry has been looking for,” Ms Bligh told Parliament.
Premier Anna Bligh said that Oprah accepted an offer from ‘Best Job in the World’ competition winner Ben Southall, who appeared on Oprah in a live crosslink from the Reef. She said that details were still being finalized but a Queensland episode of Oprah’s talk show was likely to be filmed in Cairns.
John Travolta will also be flying with the invited guests as he joined Winfrey on her show for the statement.
“John Travolta is in fact a real Qantas Airlines pilot who’s flown there several times, and we have been secretly organising and scheduling this trip of a lifetime for practically a year with everyone at Tourism Australia, and they are geared up to roll out the red carpet for all 300 of us,” Winfrey told her audience.
“When the details are established, Tourism Queensland will systemise with Tourism Australia and all other partners to develop Queensland packages that represent the destinations and experiences be included in the show so that viewers will be able to have their own Queensland adventures,” Ms Bligh said.
